Piece of cake?

Following my last post on cupcake magic, I realised that I can indeed have my cake and eat it every day of the week with friends like Emma and Annie. As much as the likes of 'Lolas Cupcakes' think they are the bees knees (Lola forgive me- I will still be offering free tasting services), I happen to think that the big cupcake brands will soon be going out of fashion if it is as easy to make cupcakes as these two say it is (no - I don't believe them either).

Although it may not be so easy making them as good as these pictures, Emma and Annie prove just how a simple bit of homecooking (and patience) can result in a batch of tasty treats for a fraction of the price.

let them eat cake.

After finally going to see the heavily publicised SATC2 this week, I, like many, came out of the cinema feeling bitterly disapointed. However, ignoring the utterly pointless, everlasting storyline (were we meant to feel as if we too had flown to abu dhabi and back?) I did come back with inspiration for my next post...

Cupcakes.

Yes, infact, I even found myself debating whether I'd choose one of Charlotte's cupcakes over Carrie's new closet (you'd be suprised which one won).

Appearing in Vogue monthly and frequently being snapped in the hands of many a celebrity is all in a days work for our new favourite treat. Infact, I think it's the only sinful treat that has ever been made to look stylish and to this day, have never been placed next to their calorific content (letting us believe they are as angelic as they look and taking any increased waistline with a pinch of salt - well sugar).

Legging It

They were popular in the 80's and went out of fashion for good reason. So why are leggings so damn popular this year?

Apparently leggings are supposed to be tight and stretchy. I will repeat - Apparently. After half an hour of any vigurous sitting/walking/stretching they are guaranteed to bag around you knees and bum. Yes, leggings are sociable creatures, they bond with almost everything - thighs, hips, spare tires - all places where accentuation is not welcomed to the public eye. So why do so many people wear them with little else? Tiny tees and leggings (especially the 'tights' from Primark) leave little to the imagination and might as well be worn with a warning sign.

Would you choose to get dressed in the morning if it covered little up? I think not. Leggings goodbye, stick to your day job in the history book.

Sock and Sandals, how about No.

My Grazia magazine this week came up with a funny joke. Socks and sandals are apparently going to make a reapperance. No. This look is surely only ok if you're over 50 and male. Even then it is laughed upon.

At least this is what I thought until I saw 'the look'.

Not ok if your over 50, certainly not if you're male, but if you have endless legs then this look is actually, to my suprise, quite nice.

Charitable chic seems to be on my side.

Yes, the first time I ventured into a charity shop I came out with a french connection jacket for £1. Forget vintage shops charging ridiculous amounts (for now they realise how popular they are getting). Forget primark who too think that people will still shop there if they charge the same amount as topshop (we only like you 'cos your cheap you know). Venturing into charity shops is the new way forward. Ok, so some trips haven't always been succesful (sometimes i've spotted primark in them being sold at double the rrp) but if you go at the right time and are prepared to scutter through the waste, you will be suprised with the bargains you leave with. Here are some of the items I have recently purchased in charity shops including a suitcase - the strange looks i got carrying it around were worth it for the price let me tell you!

Black sequin top £5
lace jacket £12
cream cardigan £4
blouse £3.50
suitacase £3

Living in England means waking up daily with both sunglasses and a coat beside the bed. Both of these essentials travel around with me, as while the early gaze through the window first thing in the morning may suggest sun, by the time afternoon arrives the coat has usally won the battle.
So, thinking of what to write about for summer clothing with weather as unpredictable as a fashion trend has proven to be somewhat difficult. The one way to tackle this problem is practicality. Here are my wardrobe essentials for the summer, allowing all weathers.

Cardigans and umbrellas can easily be packed away if the sun decides to shine, while shorts and skirts can be teamed with tights if winter weather stays put (most likely option).

One thing for sure is, despite it going against all my practical suggestions, this playsuit will be top of my summer wishlist. Now all I need is money and an exotic holiday.

Excited much?

Sex and the City 2 out on 27 May has already confirmed itself to me that its a hit with the 80s flashback costumes looking suprisingly in touch with my wardrobe today.
